Taped Memories
The web version doesn't work together with NVDA (testet on Brave browser and firefox on win11 and NVDA Version: 2025.3.2). We are still looking for solutions. The download version seems to work fine though. Sorry for the inconvenience.
We also made some adjustments. Details can be found below.
The game
Taped Memories is an audio game based on a story with riddles. It can be enjoyed by both people with and without visual impairments.
Please note that the game contains swearing and explicit language.
You wake up. Although it's a nice day you groan and clutch your head. It seems like your head hurts a lot...
You drank last night, and your Visual Assistant System (VAS) is no help at all. There's only one option left: find out yourself what happened yesterday!
Prerequisites and customisation options
Taped Memories can be played in a browser or downloaded on Windows.
The game is compatible with screen readers and has key remapping. Subtitles are displayed with character colours.
We tested the screen reader support with NVDA on Windows and the key remapping with both a standard keyboard and an Activator Pro 80/64 Braille display with an integrated keyboard. Unfortunately, we could only test the key remapping on the Braille display with Ubuntu and screenreader Orca. We would therefore be very grateful if you could send us some feedback if it works on other systems so that we can include this information in this description.
Instructions
In Taped Memories, your task is to find out what happened yesterday. Unfortunately, you only have audio files to work with. However, the latest technology enables you to adjust the different audio channels.
- Select the audio channel you want to adjust by pressing 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.
- Use the Up or Down keys on the keyboard to adjust the channel's volume.
- Find the hidden message in the background noise.
After each audio riddle, you have to choose from different options.
What do you think happened yesterday? Where were you, who were you with, and what did you do?
Perhaps there are no wrong answers, just a blizzard of ignorance.
A small disclaimer and a big thank you!
Firstly, thank you so much for playing Taped Memories!
Please give us your feedback on the game – it's our first published game, and the first time we have implemented screen reader support. If there's anything you'd like to change or recommend, please get in touch!
We would also like to thank our supporters who were willing to give us their time and creativity by composing awesome music for us (shout-out to Lars Engeln!) and lending us their beautiful voices (Matthias Böhm, Antonio Hentschke, Clemens Heinrich, Agni Müller, Robin Schilling). Thanks also to the student theatre group DIE BÜHNE e.V. (https://die-buehne.tu-dresden.de/) where we were able to record.
We look forward to your feedback!
Daniel Bernhardt and Kay Zeisig
